Message from President Michael Straeter Re: Albertsons & Ralphs Merger
As you may have heard this proposed merger may or may not go thru! All is dependent on the Federal regulators. The Federal Trade Commission may fight this merger as being anti-competitive and monopolistic. Our local had six Albertsons at one time that were acquired by Haggen and we were stunned when Haggen went bankrupt in less than 90 days. No doubt, a designed plan by corporate executives to close the stores, sell them off, and make more money on real estate sales. This proposed merger will not benefit the shopping public because prices will not decline even though the corporations claim this will be the main benefits the shopping public will enjoy. I seriously doubt it. We have heard this before and it never seems to materialize nor is it measurable. If this merger goes thru, our members in Southern California may suffer unfavorable consequences such as store closures and layoffs. Our local joins the other Southern California locals in opposing this merger between Albertsons/Vons and Ralphs.
Fraternally yours,

Medical Treatment for Work-Related Injuries – Important Announcement As of July 1, 2013, medical treatment for a work-related injury will be controlled by your employer more than ever before. With the passing of Senate Bill (SB) 863, California’s latest Workers’ Compensation “reform” (effective January 1, 2013), new deadlines must be adhered to and treatment requests will be scrutinized heavily. Mistakes and omissions give insurance companies the justification they need to deny a request for medical care. |
